Our new Ministers want to continue supporting the roll-out of more lane rental schemes.
As we are expecting quite a few more bids to come in over the next year or two, we have also agreed a new process for DfT assessment of bids. This will mean that:
- all bids sent to the DfT between now and 1 April 2025 will be assessed as a group between May-July 2025
- any bids sent by 1 October 2025 will be assessed as a group between November 2025-January 2026
- And so on….
This will help us to programme and allocate the necessary resource including legal and analytical to assessing bids.
We will be updating our lane rental guidance to reflect this new process. Plus we have a few more updates to make, for example, to reflect the need for authorities to show they have considered the Environmental Principles Policy Statement (EPPS) and Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED).
We will also issue some more standardised templates for making applications to DfT, again to make this easier for bidders and for us when it comes to assessment.
